LENTEN WEDNESDAY EVENING SUPPERS: Cans of soup are needed for our five Lenten Wednesday evening suppers that start on Feb. 29th. Will you contribute several cans for our suppers? The women’s group of our church (LWML) will be preparing the first meal. Who will sponsor any of the remaining four evenings? Let Margaret or Sharon know. We can all help-out by bringing several cans of soup to church NOW and place in the Soup Box located in the Narthex. Questions/ Call the church office (584-2565) or Sharon Westman, Fellowship Chair (964-3282).
IMPORTANT MEETING COMING SOON – On March 12 there will be a special Congregational Meeting beginning at 7:30 p.m. Pastor Dick Peterson, Circuit Counselor, will be here to discuss how the call process works and what decisions we as a congregation must make in order to begin the process. Please plan to attend. The input of all members is needed.
NEW MEMBERS welcomed last Sunday included Jeanine Korn by affirmation of faith; Kevin Hoffman of Lakewood by affirmation of faith; Brian McGinty by adult confirmation; and Reagan Voges by transfer. God grant that we be blessings to one another.
THANKS to all who came to support youth ministry at POP on Shrove Tuesday — members who contributed their cash donations; to the adults who provided leadership in the kitchen (Judi Berthiaume, Connie Brining, and Jan Averkamp); and to the Concordia Marimbas under the direction of Connie Schmidt who provided the lively entertainment.
LEAVENWORTH is the sight of next week's conference for Directors of Christian Education in the Northwest District. Because Pastor John shares several mutual responsibilities with them for youth ministry in the district, he plans to attend as well. Pastor Robin Dugall, pastor from Monroe WA, will be the guest presenter.
THE UGANDAN ORPHANS CHOIR will be back in the South Puget Sound this coming Sunday evening, Feb. 26. All are welcome to hear these gifted children in a concert to be presented at Light of Christ Lutheran Church in Federal Way (2400 SW 344th St.) The start time is 6 p.m. A free-will offering will be received. Interested in a car pool? Need transportation? Please call Pastor John (253-906-6813)
A SINCERE THANKS to those who were able to help rearrange the sanctuary after late service this last Sunday. With many hands the work goes smoothly and quickly. The seating arrangement now encourages us to look on the cross of Christ (formerly our Christmas tree) as we begin this season of meditation and repentance.
THANKS ALSO to the Sunday School Children who sang at the beginning of the 11 a.m. service last Sunday. Their voices rose in song and prayer, as did the congregations.
SGI TIME HAS ARRIVED: One more chance to fill out a “Spiritual Gifts Inventory” will be available this Sunday, Feb 26. Why should I do that, you ask? Bing aware of your own spiritual gifts (gifts given to you by a God who cares about you and others) opens yourself up to service. It would be hoped that the more people in the congregation who are aware of their Spiritual Gifts, the more service we would be able to give to each other. We will not be “programming” your use of your gifts. We will score your inventory for you and return it to you with some notations regarding your particular gifts. You will then have the opportunity to use your gifts in ways that you might choose. By no means do they have to be used within the congregation. Your ministry may easily extend out into the community as well. Look for Dick Winterstein and/or Rod Riveness after the services both Sundays. They will have the forms available. It will take about 20 to 30 minutes to fill out the inventory. – Bob Meyer, Stewardship Chair.
MUSICAL NOTES: "Let your light shine!" Is that tune still running through your head? It is mine! Thanks to the choir for uplifting our 11:00 worship last Sunday. | This Sunday during the offering at the 11:00 service, Christopher Rose will share Let Us Break Bread Together on his harmonica. | Ask yourself this question: Am I lukewarm? Think about your answer, and then go read Revelation 3:14-22. I asked myself this question, and had to really ponder what my ministry is to POP. I'm being reflective as I approach three years with you. My hope is that you are able to think about your ministry and consider the future as we serve God's people at POP..Richard Wildhirt Minister of Music

This study is entitled How We Got the Bible and is in a DVD/Bible Study/Discussion format featuring Dr. Paul L. Maier. Please contact the church office if you are willing to facilitate. Materials are available for preview.
HARD COPY NEWSLETTER AND MARCH CALENDAR will be printed next week. Please have any events you wish included in the calendar entered on the master calendar in the workroom by Tuesday, Feb. 28.
THE NEW MISSION PROJECT for our Sunday School classes is called “Fueling the Mission” which will help bring the Word of God to remote areas in northern Canada. This is through LAMP, the Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots. Keep track of our progress on the display by the Sunday School office.
PEW POUCH VOLUNTEER. The Board of Education is seeking a volunteer to help maintain the pew pouches. This would involve a few minutes each Sunday after second service to straighten the pouches and replenish paper, crayons, etc. Books and activities are updated once a month and this usually takes 15-20 minutes. Training is available. Please contact the church office if you are willing to help in this simple yet important ministry. Children really use and enjoy the pouches!
FELLOWSHIP – A sincere THANK YOU to all who signed-up to do coffee in the past and in the future. Jess Gilbert & Tim Jaech have signed up for the 26th and Susan Sears for Mar 4. The sign-up sheet is available on the Narthex counter for the future months of March and April. Thank you for your service. - Sharon Westman, chair

“THINK SUMMER!” — maybe that will help! (This week won’t last you know!) Here are some dates to keep in mind as individuals and families dream about more sunshine. The Northwest District Convention will be June 21-23 in Portland. . . the WA-AK LWML Convention will be June 22-24 in Olympia. . . POP’s Vacation Bible School is set for the last week in June starting on Sunday evening, June 24. . . at this point Sun., July 1, will be Pastor John’s last Sunday to serve at POP. . . the Trinity Lutheran Bible Camp will be July 16-20. . . a synodical youth servant event will be held at Zion/Tacoma July 23-29. . . “Kaleidoscope ’12 on Delano Bay” will be July 29-Aug. 3. Whew! (more details coming!).
BAPTIZED? Many will say, "Of course!" But, do you know and celebrate that date? Although the specific date pales in significance to the spiritual significance for the Christian, the day can be a unique opportunity to identify and celebrate some of the specific blessings of this eternal gift. Pastor John is helping to provide leadership to have this date noted publicly and in prayers, If one's personal baptism date is known, please inform Pastor John and/or call the church office. Noting the location and the identity of Christian sponsors will help complete church records as well. Celebrating a baptism anniversary this week is: Erin Brockman, Pam Edgington (2/21), Pat Bowlin, Doris Hall (2/22), Samantha McGinty (2/24), Connie Schmidt (2/28).
IN OUR PRAYERS: Home-bound members, those hospitalized, members of the armed forces, and others are frequently remembered in both personal and public prayers. We weep with those who weep; we rejoice with those who rejoice. Are there specific prayer request to note in this Newsletter, Sunday bulletin, or for Sunday's public prayers during the Liturgy? For this Newsletter and the Sunday Bulletin the effort is made to update these weekly. Please contact Pastor John (253-906-6813) or call the church office (253-584-2565).
