THE FESTIVAL OF PENTECOST will be celebrated in the Liturgy this Sunday, May 27. This splendid festival of Christendom based on Acts 2 concludes “The Great 50 Days” of the Easter season. Because the outpouring of God’s promised Spirit is noted in the Pentecost event, this day has also been rightly called the “birthday of the Christian church.” The Word of the Lord grew, so St. Luke records, and the number of believers increased dramatically. It is in this context that new members will also be received at POP. Cassie Shinaul, our new sister in Christ, will be baptized. The image of the tongues of fire continues to provide rich background and creativity for this festival. So, RED is the color of the day. Why not wear something red for the occasion?

THE CALL Committee will meet after the late service on May 27. Issues to be discussed involve the Intentional Interim Pastor Information Forms, the schedule of interviews, the structure of the self- study, and a late June Congregational meeting. POP members - It is time to submit questions to be asked of the candidates. Please get your questions in to one of the committee members by May 31. A list of questions proposed by district is available on Table Talk in the church narthex (entrance).
The call committee members are:

Judi Berthiaume
Connie Brining
Jesse Gilbert

LaVonne Johnson

Sherri Thomas
Roger Westman
Dick Winterstein

HOSPITALIZED and in the PRAYERS of God’s people: Ulla Smith is home but will have another procedure this week…Linda Heinrichs is home following foot surgery. . . Jo Heussman is home recovering from viral pneumonia. Prayers continue for Pastor Chris Davis (St. Luke’s/F’Way), Bev Gilbert, Arthur Jestice, Herbert Schmitt, Dick Bowlin, Jim Gates, and Betty Olson.

BAPTIZED? Many will say, "Of course!" But, do you know and celebrate that date? Although the specific date pales in significance to the spiritual significance for the Christian, the day can be a unique opportunity to identify and celebrate some of the specific blessings of this eternal gift. Pastor John is helping to provide leadership to have this date noted publicly and in prayers, If one's personal baptism date is known, please inform Pastor John and/or call the church office.  Noting the location and the identity of Christian sponsors will help complete church records as well. Celebrating a baptism anniversary this week are: Keegan Ross (5/24), Betty Arrowood (5/25), Gretchen McCann, Neal Rogers (5/26).

IN OUR PRAYERS: Home-bound members, those hospitalized, members of the armed forces, and others are frequently remembered in both personal and public prayers. We weep with those who weep; we rejoice with those who rejoice. Are there specific prayer request to note in this Newsletter, Sunday bulletin, or for Sunday's public prayers during the Liturgy? For this Newsletter and the Sunday Bulletin the effort is made to update these weekly. Please contact Pastor John (253-906-6813) or call the church office (253-584-2565).
